Stream of Consciousness

Early 20’s Life - Unrequited Love

When I started this project, I was interested in the idea of thought process, and how that comes across in an artist’s work. An audience perceives creative work from their own standpoint, and this morphs the artwork into something different from how it originated. I wanted to explore this concept of perception and origin through the process of creation - making something uninterrupted and continuous to explore how that changed the audiences experience and perspective.

Theme

Seeing as my investigation centred around audience and perspective, I decided to focus the theme itself on the demographic itself. As I knew this project would be viewed primarily by people in their early 20’s and exhibition, my theme was centred around them.

While exploring the experience of the average 20-something, I delved into the bittersweet, satirical and often cynical perspective many of us have. I found that young adult life can be a lot like a romance novel - we love our twenties, but they don’t love us. Exploring this idea through the concept of stream of consciousness, I experimented with style and medium making a large array of imagery and several zines.
